At Least 20 Believed Dead in South Korea Lithium Battery Plant Fire

A deadly fire erupted at a lithium battery manufacturing plant in Hwaseong, South Korea, around 10:30 AM local time on Monday. The blaze, which began after a series of battery cell explosions, has claimed approximately 20 lives. The intense fire and continuous explosions hindered rescue efforts, with 21 workers still unaccounted for out of the 67 on duty. Emergency meetings and extensive rescue operations are underway, with President Yoon Suk Yeol urging the mobilization of all available resources to find survivors.

Tesla, Opponents Clash Over Musk's $56 Billion Pay Package

Tesla and opponents of CEO Elon Musk's $56 billion pay package are in a legal showdown. Tesla requested the Delaware judge to reverse her January ruling voiding the package, noting a recent shareholder vote to reinstate it. However, Richard Tornetta, who sued to invalidate the plan, argues the vote has no legal impact and insists Tesla must appeal to the Delaware Supreme Court. Tornetta's legal team also demands a substantial legal fee, proposing $1.1 billion as an alternative to their initial $5 billion request. Tesla argues the shareholder vote addresses the judge's concerns about Musk's influence over the board.

The EU Digital Identity Wallet: Everything You Need to Know

The EU Digital Identity Wallet is an initiative aimed at creating a universal digital identity system for European citizens. This ambitious project, set to roll out by the end of 2026, will enable Europeans to access a variety of public and private services through a secure, free app on their smartphones. The wallet will allow users to store and selectively share credentials, such as IDs, driver's licenses, medical prescriptions, and educational qualifications, facilitating both online and real-world identity verification.

While the first wallets are expected in a couple of years, universal availability is targeted for 2030. The initiative also aims to challenge Big Tech's dominance in digital identity, promoting a secure and privacy-preserving alternative. However, successful implementation will depend on overcoming technical challenges, ensuring robust security, and gaining user trust and adoption.

India’s Electronics Manufacturing to Reach $500 Billion by 2030

A Confederation of Indian Industry report projects India's electronic manufacturing sector to hit $500 billion by 2030, up from $102 billion in 2023. The sector's demand for components is expected to rise to $240 billion. Key recommendations include fiscal support schemes, rationalizing import tariffs, and signing FTAs. The report highlights the need to transition from import-dependent assembly to value-added manufacturing, emphasizing growth in batteries, camera modules, displays, and PCBAs. Achieving this could create 280,000 jobs and position India as a global electronics hub.

Further Allegations Emerge Regarding Boeing's Manufacturing Practices

Boeing faces new allegations about its manufacturing practices following a series of troubling incidents, including a mid-air door blowout on an Alaska Airlines flight in January. Whistleblower Sam Mohawk, a former Boeing quality assurance inspector, testified that Boeing concealed defective parts during an FAA inspection and lost track of them, raising safety concerns. These allegations come amid ongoing scrutiny, multiple failed FAA audits, and previous whistleblower deaths, intensifying the backlash against Boeing and calls for accountability.
